A motorcyclist is in critical condition and another driver is being investigated for driving while intoxicated following a crash Sunday night in Clay County near the Smithville Dam.

Deputies responded around 7:40 p.m. to Litton Way near DD Highway and next to Smithville Lake, said Sarah Boyd, a spokeswoman for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, in a news release.

At the scene, deputies found a Chevrolet Cruze had hit a 34-year-old man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, who was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Boyd said. He remains in critical condition.

The man was not wearing a helmet, Boyd said.

Deputies said the driver of the Chevrolet remained on scene. He was arrested and is under investigation for driving while intoxicated, Boyd said.
