KC police save two women from balcony of burning apartment, body cam video shows

Body camera video shows two Kansas City police officers helping women stranded on a balcony escape from an apartment fire last month in south Kansas City.

The video, shared by police this week on Twitter, shows South Patrol officers Scott Summers and Dustin Dykstra assisting the women from the balcony to safety.

The two officers were on their way to a QuikTrip when they saw dark smoke billowing in the distance, according to police. They rushed towards the fire and as they neared cries for help can be heard on the video.

“Help! Help! Help!” a terrified woman screamed.

“Just hang down. Hang down. Hang down,” one of the officers said. “Grab this right here and I’ll help you down.”

After one of the women lowered herself down to the officers, attention turned to the other woman on the balcony.

“Alright, c’mon,” the officer is heard telling the woman. “Hey, hey, hey. Do the same thing. Same thing.”

“Help her. Help her,” a woman can be heard telling the officers.

The woman lowered herself to the officers, who helped her the remaining way to the ground and to safety.
