A motorcyclist was critically injured Monday after being ejected from their vehicle in Kansas City, according to police.

A black Kawasaki Ninja was traveling southbound on The Paseo just before 10:30 p.m., when the motorcyclist failed to negotiate the curve near 58th Street and The Paseo, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department, in a news release.

Then, they started traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of The Paseo.

The motorcyclist hit the curb of the median separating the northbound and southbound lanes of The Paseo and was ejected from the vehicle, Becchina said. They were not wearing a helmet.

The motorcyclist landed next to the median on the northbound side of The Paseo, Becchina said. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition, but are now stable.

The investigation is ongoing.
