Update: Police in an update Sunday afternoon said one of the passengers, a female, later died from her injuries.

Four people were injured Saturday night in Kansas City after a driver lost control of a vehicle and it overturned multiple times, according to police.

A white Jeep Grand Cherokee was speeding westbound on Interstate 70 and weaving through traffic around 7:15 p.m., when it swerved across three lanes of traffic and attempted to take the exit ramp near 31st Street, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department, said in a news release.

At the start of the ramp, the driver lost control of the Jeep. The vehicle left the highway, flipped over multiple times down the embankment and hit a large tree, Becchina said.

Two adults were ejected from the Jeep, while a three-month-old infant and two other adults remained in the vehicle, he said.

No one was wearing a seat belt, Becchina said. The infant was strapped into her car seat, but it was not secured to the vehicle’s seat, he said.

The driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and another passenger was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Becchina said. Two other passengers were taken to the hospital with critical and serious injuries.

The infant was taken to the hospital but didn’t appear to be injured.
