A person was hospitalized in critical condition Friday night in North Kansas City following a rollover crash, police said.

Just after 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at Highway 169 and Highway 9, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

A silver Chevrolet Tahoe was driving fast while heading north on Highway 169 when it suddenly went off the road and hit a steel guardrail. The SUV then rolled over and came to a rest while blocking one of the highway lanes.

A gray Honda Accord that was also driving north then collided with the SUV.

The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the Honda Accord refused medical treatment at the scene.

All the lanes of north Highway 169 were closed for a little over two hours.
