A Humane Society of Missouri animal cruelty task force rescued more than 25 animals, including dogs, kittens and chickens, from alleged inhumane conditions at a Clinton County home northeast of Kansas City, the group announced Thursday.

The rescue, in cooperation with local law enforcement, recovered nine dogs, 10 cats including five kittens, five chickens, a sugar glider and a gerbil from a home in Lathrop, Missouri, according to the Humane Society.

Dead animals were also found on the property, the group said.

The animals were receiving veterinary care after being brought to the Humane Society of Missouri’s headquarters in St. Louis. The group expects to make the animals available for adoption once they have recovered.

To report animals who may be in danger or suffering from neglect or abuse, call the local police and the Human Society of Missouri’s animal cruelty hotline at 314-647-4400.
