Firefighters responded to a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Prairie Village.
The fire was reported around 3:50 p.m. at a house in the 3400 block of W. 73rd Terrace in Prairie Village. The house is believed to be vacant, said Fire Chief Steve Chick of Consolidated Fire District No. 2.

Chick said the roof partially collapsed and there had been “significant amount” of damage before firefighters arrived. He said they had not done a sweep of the house as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, saying there were safety concerns that prevented them from going inside.
Firefighters also found a downed power line in the backyard.
“We’re just trying to get this thing under control,” Chick said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. An investigation of its origin was being handled by Johnson County Fire District 2.
