Four children and a teacher injured Friday in school bus crash in Kansas City
A teacher and four middle school students riding in a school bus were injured Friday morning after a three-vehicle crash at East 85th Street and Oak Street, the Kansas City Police Department said.
Police said that an SUV was traveling east on 85th Street when the driver swerved left to avoid hitting a deer that ran into the road. The SUV hit a Kia that was stopped at the intersection.
The Kia was pushed into another lane in front of the school bus. Then the bus hit the Kia and went off the road to the left, according to police.
The bus knocked down several poles, went down a culvert and hit a fence.
The teacher and students were taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The drivers of the Kia and SUV had minor injuries but declined medical treatment, police said.
