Three people were hospitalized in a head-on crash early Tuesday before a truck proceeded to crash into a Kansas City building.

At about 12:23 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at East 85th Street and Troost Avenue, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

The driver of a red Chevy Silverado was headed south in the northbound lane of Troost Avenue “at a high rate of speed,” police said. At the same time, the driver of a white Nissan Altima was headed north on Troost when they were hit head-on by the driver of the Chevy.

After colliding with the Nissan, the Chevy went down a southeast embankment and hit a building at 111 East 85th Street, where Freedom Fire Ministries, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary, is housed.

The driver and passenger in the Nissan were hospitalized with critical injuries, police said. The driver of the Chevy was hospitalized with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police said possible impairment of the driver is under investigation.
