Two lanes of I-70 in Kansas City closed after crash involving Kansas City police vehicle
Two eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Kansas City were shut down Thursday morning after a two-vehicle crash involving a Kansas City Police Department vehicle.
The collision occurred just before 9:15 a.m. on I-70 near Manchester Trafficway, the Missouri Department of Transportation in Kansas City posted on Twitter. Two eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed and authorities asked drivers to expect delays in the area.
Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department, said the officer’s vehicle was stopped on the shoulder to conduct speed enforcement. The driver of a Chevy Silverado pickup truck began traveling out of the lane and onto the shoulder and struck the back of the patrol vehicle.
The officer and the other driver were transported to a hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, Drake said.
