A 38-year-old woman was killed Wednesday evening after the taxicab she was riding in was struck by a car that was fleeing from a Kansas City police pursuit.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of East Truman Road and Prospect Avenue in the city’s 18th and Vine neighborhood. Police were chasing after a Dodge Caliber driven by a suspected carjacker, according to a Kansas City crash report shared Wednesday night.

The police pursuit started near the intersection of 45th Street and Cleveland Avenue. As the officers continued to chase the suspected carjacker down Truman, the driver crashed into a Toyota Scion operated by Z-Trip.

Four people from both vehicles were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The woman killed, a passenger in the taxi, was ejected from the vehicle after the crash and died shortly after arriving at the hospital. The driver, an adult male, did not have injuries considered life-threatening.

The Dodge involved in the police pursuit was occupied by two teenagers. The 17-year-old driver did not suffer major injuries, police said, but a 15-year-old passenger was listed in critical condition Wednesday night.
