Brookside St. Patrick’s Day Warm-up parade delayed to March 19 due to cold weather
The Brookside St. Patrick’s Day Warm-up Parade has been postponed one week and will now take place at 1 p.m. March 19 due to cold weather and slick road conditions.
The parade is returning after a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The purpose of a parade is to help people have fun — both within the parade and watching. Standing, walking, riding in wintry weather, after arriving in even colder temperatures, is just miserable,” parade organizer Jennifer Gamble said in a statement. “Because of the cold, we’ve lost bagpipers, bands, cars, dogs, and many other crowd favorites. Postponing to the 19th means more people can participate and we can have so much more fun.”
The parade was originally scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, but temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s following a winter storm that dropped between 4 to 6 inches of snow across the area.
The Brookside parade will be among several St. Patrick’s Day festivities taking place throughout the Kansas City area starting this weekend. Among the events that are back is the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17.
The parade route in Brookside will start at 65th Street and Wornall Road and head north. Then it will turn east on 63rd Street, south on Main Street, then west on Meyer Boulevard, ending at the intersection between Meyer Boulevard and Brookside Road.
The parade will include traditional Irish dancing, floats, classic cars, music and other activities.
