Kansas City police investigate a homicide Saturday near Van Brunt Boulevard
Kansas City police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot and killed on Saturday.
Around 5:15 p.m., officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to a shots fired call at East 24th Street and Hardesty Avenue, said Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman with the department.
The call was upgraded to a shooting as officers were on the way. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot across the street at East 24th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard, Drake said.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where he died. Drake said the original call came from Jubilee Market, but it’s unclear if the incident happened at the store.
Detectives searched for possible witnesses as crime scene technicians collected evidence.
The fatal shooting is Kansas City’s 26th homicide so far this year, according to data maintained by The Star. There were 157 killings in 2021, the second deadliest year in the city’s history.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or through the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
