A crash Saturday morning left two people dead after a car hit a tree and overturned, police said.

The crash occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. at 155th Street and North Madison Street, Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department, said.

A black Infiniti was traveling east on 155th Street “at a very high rate of speed,” Foreman said.

The driver lost control and the car went off the road to the left, struck a tree several feet in the air and overturned. The passenger was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was wearing their seat belt but was also pronounced dead.

The victims’ identities have not been released. The deaths mark the third and fourth fatalities from vehicle crashes this year.
