Samantha Manley and Evan Jones had a storm to beat and a baby to greet.

The couple welcomed their new daughter just 20 minutes after arriving at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence. She was born two hours into the new year and just ahead of a winter storm.

Jaymeson, one of the first babies welcomed in the Kansas City metro area in 2022, was born at 2:12 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the hospital, which is part of HCA Midwest Health. She weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 19 inches long.

“Everything seemed to happen so fast,” Manley said in a news release. “We drove to the hospital as quickly and safely as we could. It was truly a wild ride, but we are so grateful to be here at Centerpoint where the nurses were calm, and so compassionate during this entire experience.”

Jaymeson got to meet her big sister, 4-year-old Khali, later that day.

“While it was scary at times, and hard to believe, it will be easy to remember Jaymeson’s birthday each year,” said her father, Jones. “It will be a wonderful tradition to celebrate the new year, and she’ll have quite the story to tell.”
