Harry S. Truman Presidential Library is slated to re-open to the public on Dec. 2

The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, which had been closed due to an increase of COVID-19 cases in Jackson County, is scheduled to re-open to the public on Dec. 2, library officials announced Monday.

The museum was closed in October after it had re-opened in July after two years of being closed for extensive renovations and subsequently because of the pandemic.

“We are delighted to welcome guests back into the spectacular new Truman exhibition,” Truman Library Director Kurt Graham said a written statement. “The pandemic has presented a lot of challenges, but we are prepared and anxious to open our doors to make history come to life for our visitors.”

Timed-entry tickets are available via TrumanLibrary.gov. The museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for guests who purchase advance tickets online.

General admission tickets cost $12 with discounts for seniors, students, veterans and active members of the U.S. military. Admission is free for members and children 12 and younger.

In order to comply with federal health and safety guidelines, all guests will be require to wear masks, and timed ticket sales will be limited to allow for social distancing inside the museum, according to the announcement.

Some of the highlights at the museum include:

  • Immersive sound-and-light theaters depicting WWI and the Cold War
  • 14-foot interactive globe exploring the hard problems of peace following WWII
  • Expanded insight on Truman’s leadership on Civil Rights and the recognition of Israel
  • Fresh perspective on Truman’s family, including Bess Truman’s role as advisor and confidante
  • Loyalty Review Board role-playing game where players uncover government disloyalty during the Red Scare
  • Increased storytelling and never-before seen artifacts from the Korean War
