Family raises money for Sedalia girl, 11, killed shortly after getting off school bus
An 11-year-old girl was killed Monday after she was hit by a vehicle in Sedalia, police said.
Loved ones have since created a GoFundMe to help pay for her funeral.
“Ella was their baby girl and the light of their life and with it being around Christmas time they should be buying gifts and celebrating but instead they have to plan a funeral,” a family member wrote of the girl’s parents.
As of Wednesday morning, more than $18,000 had been raised. Any additional money beyond covering funeral expenses will go to her family, the fundraising page said.
At 3:11 p.m. Monday, police were notified of a crash in the area of North Engineer Avenue and East Saline Street, according to a news release from the Sedalia Police Department.
At the scene, police found the girl who had been hit by a vehicle, the release said. She later died.
The Sedalia Democrat, a local newspaper, reported that the girl was a student at Sedalia Middle School and that she had gotten off the bus with another student shortly before she was killed.
Anyone with information on the crash, or who witnessed it unfold, is asked to call the police department’s traffic unit at 660-827-7823.
