Independence man killed in end-over-end crash on I-435 in south Kansas City

A 32-year-old Independence man died when his car ran off of Interstate 435 in the Three Trails Crossings in south Kansas City Monday and flipped end over end multiple times, a police spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The driver was identified as Joshua L. Branham.

The crash occurred about 6:15 a.m. during Monday’s rush hour where eastbound I-435 curves north in the interchange that was formerly known as the Grandview Triangle.

Branham was headed headed to northbound I-435 when he lost control of the Volkswagen Jetta he was driving and ran off the highway. During the crash, the car flipped end over end multiple times partially ejecting him. Branham was the only person in the car, said Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

Northbound I-435 remained closed for more than two hours while police investigated the crash.

Crash scene investigators could be seen using flashlights to examine the wrecked vehicle, which had come to a rest under the bridge that leads traffic to westbound I-435.
