A motorcyclist has died after colliding with a vehicle that just minutes before was disabled in a single-car crash on Interstate 435 in Leawood, a police spokesman said.

Police were notified shortly before 9:20 p.m. that a vehicle had crashed along westbound I-435 just west of State Line Road and was disabled in the a lane of traffic, said Sgt. Shane Chambers, a spokesman for the Leawood Police Department.

While officers were in route, communication officers began monitoring the crash scene on KC Scout traffic cameras. A few minutes later, they saw a motorcycle collide with the disabled vehicle, he said.

Arriving officers found a 25-year-old motorcyclist who was unresponsive. Officers began CPR on the rider. Crews with the Leawood Fire Department and Johnson County Med-ACT arrived and took over the life saving measures.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. His identity was being withheld until his family could be notified.

The Leawood Police Department’s Major Crash Unit was investigating both crashes.
