Musician in popular Kansas City Celtic rock band dies after contracting COVID-19
Steve Phillips, a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist for the popular Kansas City Celtic rock band The Elders, died this week from complications after contracting COVID-19, the band announced on its Facebook page.
“These are hard words to write,” read a message posted about noon Wednesday. “Our beautiful brother Steve Phillips passed away last night. Steve had been battling Pulmonary Fibrosis for quite a while and a recent bout of COVID-19 was finally too much for him to handle.
“He passed away in the loving arms of his beautiful wife, children and grandchildren . . . Your prayers for his family and all those close to him are welcomed and appreciated. We are all broken-hearted.”
Phillips was a vocalist, guitarist and mandolin player.
Hundreds of fans posted their condolences to the band’s Facebook page. Many said their hearts were broken, but they were grateful to have known him and thanked him for wonderful music to remember him by.
The band, founded in 1998, called it quits at the end of 2018.
