One killed, two injured in Saturday afternoon crash in Independence

One person was killed and two others seriously injured after a speeding car rear-ended another car at a red light in Independence on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The driver of a 2020 Kia Soul, who witnesses said was speeding, rear-ended a 2013 BMW 5 Series stopped at a red light on South Noland Road at East 23rd Street around 4:30 p.m., according to the Independence Police Department.

The driver of the BMW was taken to Centerpoint Hospital, but died from the injuries.

The driver and passenger of the Kia Soul were seriously injured, but are in stable condition at the hospital.

The driver and passenger in a second vehicle are both in serious, but stable condition.

Police said the crash is still under investigation.
