One dead in overnight motorcycle crash on I-435 ramp in Kansas City

Update: Police later identified the motorcyclist as 64-year-old Ricky L. Childers.

One man died Friday night after he drove his motorcycle off a ramp to Interstate 435 in Kansas City and was ejected from the vehicle without a helmet on, police said.

In an email Friday morning, Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman Doaa El-Ashkar said police were called to the Northbound ramp to Interstate 435 from Cookingham Drive just after 10:30 Friday night.

A motorcycle, El-Ashkar said, was traveling south on the ramp just before a curve that directed traffic north when it exited the road. The driver was ejected from the motorcycle.

He was brought to a hospital where he later died, El-Ashkar said.

The crash is Kansas City’s 73rd traffic fatality this year, police said. There had been 53 by this time last year.
