One person dead after truck runs off Metcalf/U.S. 69, crashes in Mission parking lot

One person is dead after a large truck ran off of southbound on Metcalf Avenue/U.S. 69 and crashed in a parking lot in Mission, police said.

The crash occurred about 7:35 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot at 5800 Foxridge Drive. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It’s unknown what happened at this time,” said Capt. Kirk Lane with the Mission Police Department. Police were trying to reconstruct what led up to the crash.

The truck from a local tree and lawn company crashed into a cinder block wall that served as an enclosure for trash bins, said Capt. Dan Madden with Mission police.

Firefighters from Johnson County Consolidated Fire District No. 2 had difficulty freeing the driver from wreckage.

The medical examiner was brought in and police were working to identify the victim and notify his family.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
