Oppressively hot, humid in Kansas City but relief arrives by weekend

The next couple days will be hot and humid in Kansas City with the heat index soaring to around 100 degrees, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“It’s going to feel like it’s closer to the upper 90s, and some of you may even feel like you’re in the triple digits over the next couple of days with the heat and humidity factored in,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.

The hot and humid weather is going to peak Thursday into Friday as a surge of tropical moisture moves in, she said.

“Then over the weekend we start to clear things out as a front sweeps through and brings an end to the really oppressive heat for this week,” Ritter said.

The immediate Kansas City area should be spared from the remnants of Hurricane Laura, which is expected to impact central and eastern parts of Missouri before exiting to the east.

“We should not see much more than extra clouds out of this one,” Ritter said.

Cooler temperatures are expected this weekend, with highs in the lower to mid-80s. Rain and thunderstorms are expected at the start of next week, she said.
