Search continues Sunday for 11-year-old girl lost in Kansas River in KCK
Kansas City, Kansas, emergency crews were searching Sunday for an 11-year-old girl who was lost in the Kansas River the day before.
Three boats with a total of 10 members of the fire department were searching the river, Assistant Fire Chief Scott Hawley said.
The girl has been missing since about 3:30 p.m. Saturday when she was pulled under the water while trying to retrieve a beach ball from the river near Interstate 435 and Woodend Avenue, officials said. A family had been playing with the ball near a sand bar on the river.
An adult and two other minors tried to save the girl, but ended up also needing to be rescued.
When Kansas City, Kansas, police and fire departments responded to the scene it was reported as a drowning.
The girl has not been found. Crews are trying to recover her body.
