10 new deaths of COVID-19 reported in Kansas City metro as cases surpass 25,000
Ten new COVID-19 deaths and 416 new coronavirus cases were added in the Kansas City area on Saturday as the total number of cases exceeded 25,000.
The area, which includes Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas, now has a total of 25,200 cumulative cases.
The metro on Friday reported 429 new cases, 494 cases Thursday and 556 cases on Wednesday. The seven-day average for cases is 422.
On the Missouri side, Kansas City added 95 cases for a total of 7,535; Jackson County added 72 for a total of 4,523; and Platte County added three cases to bring the total to 404 cases.
Eight of the COVID-19 deaths were reported in Clay County for a total of 30. The county also added seven new cases for a total of 1,133.
There have been 65 deaths in Kansas City, 53 in Jackson County and 10 in Platte County.
On the Kansas side in Johnson County, the other two deaths were reported for a total of 108, and 155 cases were added.
Wyandotte County added 84 cases. There have been 107 deaths in Wyandotte County.
Statewide in Missouri, 66,397 cases have been confirmed and 1,346 people have died.
In Kansas, which last updated numbers Friday, there are 33,885 cumulative cases and 402 deaths.
Earlier this week, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas extended the city’s emergency order, requiring face masks indoors until at least mid-January.
