Foul play not suspected after body found in burning car at Ray-Pec High School

Foul play is not suspected in the death of a person whose body was found inside a burning car early Tuesday at Raymore-Peculiar High School in Peculiar, Missouri, according to a spokesman for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Cass County investigators responded about 1:30 a.m. to the high school parking lot at 20801 S. School Road to help the Peculiar Police Department investigate a car fire, said Capt. Kevin Tieman, a spokesman for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators found a vehicle that had been partially burnt parked in the lot to the school, he said. A body was found inside the vehicle.

The vehicle was not involved in an accident. Investigators do not suspect foul play, Tieman said. Investigators believe the death is a probable suicide.

The Medical Examiner’s Office of Frontier Forensics is helping to determine the cause of the death and to identify the person.

The incident remains under investigation.
