Woman killed, teen in critical condition after head-on crash Saturday in Kansas City

A 35-year-old woman was killed and a teenager was severely injured in a head-on traffic crash Saturday night in Kansas City, according to police.

The wreck occurred about 7:30 p.m. at Eastwood Trafficway and Eastern Avenue, when a Mercury sedan heading east collided with a Volkswagen sedan, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

The driver and only occupant of the Mercury, a 35-year-old Kansas City woman, died at the scene.

Three people who were in the Volkswagen were taken to hospitals. The most severely injured of the three was a 19-year-old woman who was listed in critical condition.

The crash marked the 51st traffic fatality of the year in Kansas City. At this time last year, the city had counted 36, police said.
