Police: One man killed, suspect arrested after shooting in Kansas City, Kansas, home

Update: The victim was later identified as 31-year-old Vincent Locke, of Kansas City, Kansas.

One man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in the 4800 block of Richmond Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, police said.

Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Chartrand said when police responded to the shooting just after 4:30 p.m., they found the victim, a 31-year-old man, inside. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Chartrand said police believe the shooting stemmed from “some sort of domestic argument” between two men.

The suspect, believed to be about 51 years old, fled the scene before officers arrived but was arrested after seeking medical treatment at a hospital for a minor injury to his hand, Chartrand said. Police believe the suspect and the victim are related in some way.

Detectives were talking to family members who were home at the time to determine what led to the shooting, Chartrand said.

Just before 6:30 p.m., family members who were standing outside learned of the victim’s death.

Several family members dropped to the ground in grief. One knelt beside a woman on the ground and held her as she cried.

As another person walked toward the house, one family member went up to him and said, “he’s gone,” before they hugged.

This was the 21st killing in Kansas City, Kansas, this year, according to data kept by The Star.
