Kansas City metro reports 8 deaths, 144 new COVID-19 cases Saturday

The Kansas City metropolitan area reported 144 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday and eight additional deaths.

The metro, which includes Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri, and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas, has recorded 6,437 total cases of COVID-19.

On Friday, the metro set a record of 193 new cases. Saturday marks the fourth consecutive day of new cases in the triple digits.

Kansas City added 42 new cases, Jackson County added 40, Clay County gained eight, Johnson County gained 39 and Wyandotte County added 15. Platte County didn’t add any new cases Saturday.

Clay County reported five new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday. On Friday, the county reported an outbreak at Ashton Court Care and Rehabilitation Center in Liberty where five staff members and three residents tested positive for COVID-19.

Two deaths were reported in Johnson County and one was reported in Wyandotte County.

There have been 221 deaths in the metro area.

Missouri on Saturday reported 17,590 cases of COVID-19 and 955 deaths.

On Friday, Kansas reported 12,059 cases and 254 deaths.

Nationwide, more than 2.2 million cases have been confirmed and more than 119,000 people have died, according to statistics from Johns Hopkins University.
