Kansas City police say Country Club Plaza roads are open; Plaza remains closed

The roads around the Country Club Plaza are open, Kansas City police said Thursday.

The Kansas City Police Department said officers are ready “should any issues arise.”

Several roads in the Plaza, Midtown and Westport area were closed to accommodate marching protesters beginning May 31, police said.

The Plaza was closed on Thursday for the sixth day in a row as protests against police brutality continued. It initially closed Saturday at 4 p.m. ahead of the night’s protests.

About 200 people have been arrested in the protests, Kansas City police said. Police have used tear gas and pepper spray at some of the demonstrations. Protests on Tuesday and Wednesday remained mostly peaceful.
