Two killed, three injured in traffic wreck Sunday in Kansas City
The driver and passenger of a Lexus died early Sunday after the car crashed into an SUV and then a utility pole, according to the Kansas City Police Department.
The driver of the Lexus lost control of the car while heading eastbound on 12th Street “at a high rate of speed,” Officer Doaa El-Ashkar said in an email.
The car crossed over the double yellow line and struck a westbound Chevrolet SUV about 1:50 a.m., police said. The passenger side of the car hit the front of the SUV. Then the car hit a utility pole in the 6000 block of East 12th Street near Belmont Avenue.
The car’s driver and passenger both died at the scene, police said. The driver and two passengers in the SUV were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The victims had not been identified as of later Sunday morning. Police are investigating for any signs of impairment among the drivers.
