One person killed, one injured after semi strikes cars stopped north of Harrisonville

One person was killed and another was injured after a semi struck two cars north of Harrisonville on Saturday evening, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 6:50 p.m. on southbound Interstate 49 at mile marker 161.

After a car broke down on the right side of the road, another person stopped to help, according to the highway patrol. A semi hit both vehicles.

All southbound lanes of the interstate were closed north of the Route 291 exit, according to the Harrisonville Police Department, which also asked travelers to avoid the area.

The patrol’s Major Crash Team responded to the crash.
