Woman walking a dog in Olathe is killed after being struck by a car

A 61-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when she was struck by a car while walking a dog, according to the Olathe Police Department.

At 11:45 a.m., officers responded to the crash at West 138th Street and South Black Bob Road on a car crash involving a pedestrian.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment, the police department said in a news release.

Police later identified the woman as Jill E. Summers.

The dog was expected to recover.

The driver of the car was not injured and remained on scene. The crash remains under investigation.
