A pedestrian trying to cross train tracks died early Sunday after being struck by a train in Kansas City, Kansas, police said in a press release.

The crash occurred shortly after midnight in the 8000 block of Kaw Drive.

The results of the initial investigation shows that the locomotive was headed west when the pedestrian attempted to cross across the train tracks, police said. The pedestrian was hit by the train and died at the scene. The name of the pedestrian was not released.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit/Critical Collision Response Team continues to investigate the incident.
