Overland Park woman killed in crash was an admissions counselor at Baker University

A 25-year-old woman who died Monday in a Douglas County car crash had been an admissions counselor at Baker University since 2018, the school said Tuesday.

Deeva Sharma, of Overland Park, was driving on U.S. Highway 56 near Edgerton when she was killed in the two-vehicle collision.

The other driver had no apparent injuries.

Sharma graduated from Baker, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, in 2016 with a degree in English.

In 2018, she was hired as an admissions counselor, according to the university, which is located in Baldwin City.

She earned a master’s degree in education in 2019 from Boston University.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol, who reported that Sharma was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
