Missing 6-year-old boy found safe in home, Kansas City police say

Kansas City police searched in the freezing weather for a 6-year-old boy who left his Northland home Thursday night. The boy was found safe in his home early Friday morning.

Police said the child was seen leaving the home on foot just before 9 p.m. in the 5100 block of Northeast 63rd Terrace.

According to Capt. David Jackson, a Kansas City police spokesman, the boy was seen on video captured by a doorbell camera walking away from the residence.

Jackson said four or five agencies helped with the search as well as the fire department and civilian volunteers.

Officers and personnel from the fire department searched the neighborhood on foot and used a drone off N.E. 63rd Street and North Brighton Avenue, scanner traffic indicated. Police also checked surrounding areas.

The search continued late Thursday, when temperatures reached the single digits.
