In a quirky motion to continue a case, KC attorney expresses support for Chiefs
A Kansas City attorney expressed her excitement about the Chiefs’ Feb. 2 appearance in Super Bowl LIV in an unlikely place — a legal motion.
Usually dry documents — the quirky motion for a continuance filed Thursday in Platte County recounts an October court date.
Denise Kirby was representing a client on a driving while intoxicated charge when the judge suggested a Feb. 3 trial date.
“I really believed it was going to happen this year, and so I just told him, ‘I don’t plan to be in town that day, Judge,’” she told The Star.
The motion said “the courtroom erupted in laughter.”
The judge advised he would grant the continuance if that happened.
“It happened,” the motion said.
It went on to say that Kirby would be returning from the Super Bowl on the day of the scheduled trial.
It ends by saying, “Go Chiefs!”
Kirby said she’s confident the request for a continuance will be granted.
Beyond the courtroom, support for the Chiefs, who will face off against the San Francisco 49ers, has spread across Kansas City.
