Semi hits pedestrian who laid down on I-70 in Kansas City, Kansas

A semi truck hit a pedestrian who laid down on Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Kansas, Thursday afternoon, according to the state highway patrol.

The person was hit about 12:30 p.m. on I-70 near Fifth Street, according to Trooper Candice Breshears, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was walking along the interstate and then laid down in the roadway, Breshears said.

The truck’s driver saw the pedestrian and slowed down but the truck hit the person. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive, Breshears said.

Eastbound I-70 was closed for about 45 minutes while authorities investigated the crash, according to the Kansas City Metro district of the Kansas Department of Transportation.

All lanes of the highway reopened about 1:15 p.m. Thursday, according to the KC Scout traffic management system.
