Some Kansas City-area schools are canceling classes for Tuesday due to slick roads

Some school districts are calling off classes for another day after a winter storm dumped several inches of snow between Sunday and Monday, impacting travel all across the Kansas City area.

Among the closures that have been announced Monday evening are Kansas City Public Schools, the Independence School District, the Lee’s Summit School District and several others. Some have opted for a delayed start Tuesday.

Temperatures during the afternoon hours Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to linger at or just above freezing, according to the forecast. Later in the week, the area may see warmer temperatures, but snow that melts during the day is expected to refreeze overnight, potentially creating slick spots on the roads.

The Star is tracking closures of schools, libraries and other locations around the metropolitan area. The list will be updated throughout Monday night and Tuesday morning.
