One person killed in I-435 rollover wreck near Blue Parkway in Kansas City
One person was killed Tuesday morning during a one-vehicle rollover crash on southbound Interstate 435 just south of Blue Parkway in Kansas City, according to police.
The crash occurred before 11:10 a.m. when the driver of a black Mercury Mountaineer lost control, crossed all lanes and left the roadway, according to the Kansas City Police Department. The SUV started to flip and ejected the unrestrained driver, police said.
The SUV had been traveling at a high rate of speed, police said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released. No other occupants were found at the scene.
The interstate was down to one open lane for at least two hours during the crash investigation, but all lanes have since reopened, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a police spokesman.
The fatal wreck was the second reported Tuesday in the metro area.
Earlier in the day, a person was killed in a five-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 35 in Johnson County. Two people were taken to a hospital with injures in that crash, authorities said.
