Woman found dead after house fire in the Northland, Kansas City fire department says

A woman died Wednesday morning in a house fire in the Northland, according to officials.

Firefighters were called about 7 a.m. to a one-story home in the 5300 block of Northeast Munger Avenue in Kansas City, where crews found a woman dead inside a bedroom, according to Deputy Chief Jimmy Walker, a spokesman for the Kansas City Fire Department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Walker said.

Fire officials believe the blaze began near the basement stairs of the home.

No one else was at the house at the time of the fire. The Kansas City Police Department bomb and arson unit was brought in to help investigate, which is common practice in a fatal fire, Walker said.

The woman has not been identified.
