Driver critically injured after crashing SUV into tree Thursday in Kansas City

A Kansas City motorist suffered critical injuries Thursday afternoon after crashing his SUV into a tree at 34th Street and Garfield Avenue, according to police.

Officers responded to the crash just before 5:30 p.m. A maroon GMC Terrain was northbound on Garfield when the driver lost control, left the road and hit a tree, according to the Kansas City Police Department. No other vehicles were involved.

The 28-year-old victim was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, police said.

Police are investigating whether the driver was impaired. No other details were immediately available.
