Police release new details after Jeep driver killed in I-435 crash with semi truck

One person was killed Thursday night when a vehicle crossed over the median on Interstate 435 into oncoming traffic and collided with a truck in Clay County.

The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. Thursday in the northbound lanes of the interstate near NE 108th Street.

Kansas City police said that a Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading south on the interstate when it drove across the grass median and into oncoming northbound traffic.

A tractor-trailer driver tried to avoid a collision, but the left side of the truck and the left side of the Jeep collided. The Jeep driver was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver that was ejected was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was checked for chest pains, but did not want to go to a hospital.

The victim’s name has not been released by police.
