A 21-year-old Kansas City man was the driver who died in a wrong-way crash over the weekend on Interstate 29 in the Northland, police said Tuesday.

Police said Conan Gamboa was headed south in a white Chevrolet SUV in the northbound lanes of Interstate 29 about 6:15 a.m. Sunday when he crashed head-on into a black Dodge pickup truck near Northwest Barry Road.

Both drivers, who were alone in their vehicles, were taken to the hospital. Gamboa later died of his injuries. The condition of the pickup driver was not available.

The northbound lanes of I-29 were closed for a little more than two hours while police investigated the crash.
