Father and engaged couple die in triple fatal crash onto railroad tracks in KCK
Three of the four people in a van that lost control and crashed onto railroad tracks in Kansas City, Kan., have died.
Two of them — Steven Gelhart and Destiny Gregory of Kansas City — were engaged.
Also killed was Joe Bosquez, a father who had recently come to Kansas with his daughter, according to a testimonial on the GoFundMe.com fundraising site.
Police released the names of the victims Monday. The crash occurred after 10 p.m. Thursday when their silver van veered off the road in the 1400 block of 14th Street.
Police found the van lying upside-down on the tracks just north of Metropolitan Avenue. It had not been struck by a train, police said.
Gelhart and Bosquez died at the scene of the crash. Gregory and another man in the van were taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Gregory did not survive. The surviving victim was in stable condition Monday, police said.
Gelhart and Gregory had been boyfriend and girlfriend for “many years,” said the testimony accompanying a GoFundMe.com page seeking help with funeral expenses.
Bosquez “loved life and tried to enjoy it to the fullest,” read his tribute on GoFundMe.com for his family’s funeral expenses.
He had come to Kansas “to fulfill his dream of making music and creating a better life for himself and his daughter,” the testimonial said.
