Community support grows for family of Gardner-Edgerton student killed in fatal wreck
Donations continue to pour in to a memorial fund established to help the family of a Gardner-Edgerton High School student killed earlier this week in a fatal wreck.
About 250 people have donated more than $16,000 in three days to help the family of 17-year-old Haylei Jo Bell with expenses. Bell died in a fatal wreck Tuesday on her way to school.
The memorial fund originated on the fund-raising website GoFundMe.
According to the page, Bell was a senior at Gardner-Edgerton and a member of the Trailblazer volleyball and track teams. She was set to attend Missouri Valley College and join their volleyball team next fall.
The crash occurred about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday along 207th Street between Cedar Niles and Moonlight roads.
Bell died at the scene and a second person — reportedly Bell’s sister — was taken to the hospital.
