Dana Knapp is the new president and CEO of ArtsKC, the regional nonprofit arts council that advocates for the arts in the Kansas City area.

ArtsKC, the regional arts council, said Monday that Dana Knapp has been appointed president and chief executive officer.

Knapp had been serving as interim president and CEO since Jan. 1.

ArtsKC board chairman Brad Douglas said the organization conducted a national search before choosing to retain Knapp because of her experience in the Kansas City arts and civic communities. She begins her new role immediately.

Knapp previously was program director of the Mid-America Arts Alliance. Before that, she worked for nearly 20 years at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. As the museum’s planning director, she oversaw the Bloch Building addition.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in design and art history from the University of Kansas and a master’s in nonprofit administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

ArtsKC works to promote, support and advocate for all forms of the arts and artists in the five-county Kansas City area.
