Two more KC metro residents die of coronavirus, 230 test positive for COVID-19 Sunday

Health officials across the Kansas City metro Sunday reported an additional 238 confirmed infections of COVID-19 and two more deaths.

To date, the virus has infected 34,499 residents, killing 478, across the region encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas.

The two additional deaths reported Sunday were of Wyandotte County residents. There, the virus has infected 6,347 people and led to the death of 124 people.

Johnson County, however, continues to outpace other parts of the region in the number of coronavirus deaths, with 134. So far, 9,354 residents have tested positive for the virus.

Kansas City is the only part of the metro that has topped more than 10,000 infections, with 10,146 to date. Ninety-six people there have died from the virus.

To date, there have been 6,473 residents infected in other parts of Jackson County. Seventy-five have died.

In Clay County, there have been 1,608 infections and 39 deaths. There have been 571 cases and 10 deaths in Platte County.

Throughout Missouri, 102,747 residents have been infected, including 1,705 who have died, according to the state data. The state’s overall positive test rate was 8.9%.

When Kansas last reported numbers Friday, there had been 48,386 infections, including 511 deaths. The state’s overall positive test rate was 10.8%.

Nationwide, the virus has infected more than 6.5 million Americans, killing 193,867, according to Johns Hopkins University.
