Kansas City metro adds 153 new coronavirus cases, no additional deaths Monday
The Kansas City metropolitan area added 153 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total number of people infected with the virus to more than 32,800. No additional deaths were reported.
To date, 32,817 people have been diagnosed with the virus in the metro area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas. The number of deaths in the metro area remains at 455.
The largest daily increase in the number of cases Monday came from Kansas City, which added 88 cases, and Jackson County, which added 36.
Kansas City continues to tally the greatest number of infections at 9,808. In total, 94 of the city’s residents have died of the virus.
Though Johnson County sits at fewer cases than Kansas City with 8,783 residents testing positive, it outpaces the other metro areas in number of deaths. So far, 121 Johnson County residents have died.
In Clay County, there have been 1,508 infections and 39 deaths. There have been 533 cases and 10 deaths in Platte County
The latest coronavirus numbers for Wyandotte County have not been updated since 1 p.m. Saturday, when health officials reported 6,147 infections and 117 deaths.
The seven day rolling average for new cases in the metro sits at 297. One week ago, it was 359. Two weeks ago, it was 348.
On Monday, Missouri reported 94,340 cases including 1,659 deaths. The seven day positive test rate was 13.8%.
Kansas, which updated its numbers for the first time since Friday, reported 46,914 cases including 485 deaths. The overall positive test rate was 10.7%.
Across the country, nearly 6.3 million people have contracted the virus and more than 189,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. Globally, more than 27.2 million people have tested positive for the virus and almost 890,000 have died.
